Two weeks ago we trekked up to chilly Vermont to spend the weekend. We had a nice drive up – great weather and we pulled into my parents driveway at 4PM. Avery had napped a while on the way up, played, watched videos, and chatted about Mimi, Grampy, and the animals. I made the drive in 3 hours, 35 minutes. No speeding, just lucky with clear weather and roads, and no traffic. Great start to the weekend!!!
When we got in, Avery went right for the toys in the basement. MiMi wasn’t even home from work yet! When she did get home, Grampy and MiMi showed Avery a surprise…

Avery had been sleeping in a pack and play when we visited, but he was outgrowing it. So, Grampy made him a murphy bed in the office – although I think Avery first thought grampy made him a trampoline because all he wanted to do was jump on it!
Grampy even got new light switch and outlet covers that glow in the dark!!!
That wasn’t the only surprise to the night. MiMi had a special dinner planned… hairy hot dogs!
She saw it on Pinterest and had to try it… you stick pasta thru hot dogs and cook them together. Avery thought it was pretty funny.
And dinner wasn’t complete without sharing cookies from the cookie jar…
After dinner we went to my high school to watch the boys JV and Varsity basketball games. Avery had never been to a game before, so we thought it would be fun. I hadn’t been back to the high school since maybe watching my sister play 5 years ago. Our friend, Richard was reffing the Varsity game, so it was a good excuse to go and take Avery.
As soon as we walked into the gym, Avery went quiet. His head went back and forth watching the players and ball on the court. He was entranced. We settled into our seats in the stands and Avery really got into it. He clapped when they made baskets (even the opposing team!) and yelled ‘Yay!’.
Grampy had brought candy canes to munch on, and we passed Avery around on our laps. He was clapping and laughing, having a great time. Then something happened on the court that made the fans laugh. Avery was standing on MiMi’s lap, but facing the stands behind us. He got a stern face and said ‘People no laughing!’, which in turn made everyone laugh even more! Avery is very demanding sometimes and says ‘Mommy no talk’ or ‘Pokey no whining’.. it’s adorable. And for him to say it like that in public was pretty funny!
Avery didn’t get thru the whole JV game before we knew it was time for him to head home and get ready for bed. MiMi and Grampy took him home and got him to bed while I stayed for the Varsity game.
There’s Richard on the left!
While Avery was napping, Dad put in some home movies. We watched the videos of the family building my parents house.
And there’s my sis and I playing in the dirt piles…
When Mom went in to check on Avery, she found this…
Pokey snuck in and took a nap with Avery!
Saturday night I didn’t snag any pictures… we had some family and friends over for a visit and to see Avery. Very low key playing with Avery and there were some yummy deserts.
Sunday morning we started with a nice haircut for Mister Avery. He did really well. He likes catching the hair in his hands and squeals. Then for the rest of the week he would tell me, “Mommy hair all gone. MiMi cut.”
Earlier that week I had been on the phone with my Mom about finding Avery some new Play Doh toys, and look what she found!
We headed back at noon on Sunday.. another fun weekend in Vermont
