Avery and I surprised our friends and family by coming up to Vermont for the holidays. Because Christmas was in the middle of the week and I didn’t have enough vacation time left to take Thurs-Fri off, I was planning on just coming up to VT the weekend after Xmass. But I pulled some extra hours at work and built up some time to take those two days off so on Xmass Eve, our office closed at noon, I snagged Avery from daycare and we drove up to VT to surprise my parents.
Avery had his nap on the way up and I had a nice drive with no rain or snow… lucky weather because days before they had an icestorm in VT and the day after Xmass it started snowing and didn’t stop til almost a foot was on the ground! (Avery enjoyed this – more pics coming)
MiMi and Grampy were VERY surprised when we showed up at their door My Mom’s jaw dropped and my Dad had to give me a double take because at first he thought I was my sister. Then his reaction, “What are you doing here?!!” Best Christmas gift we could give them!
Reading this book on Christmas Eve is a tradition my parents did with us as kids and we started with Avery last year.
Avery was a little excited and was more interested in rocking in the chair than reading the book, but he did enjoy pointing out Santa and saying ‘Ho Ho Ho.’
All the excitement made him antsy, so MiMi and Aunt Sarah took a turn…
After we read the book, we set out Cookies and Milk for Santa…
Grampy brought in an icesicle (one of the many huge ones hanging off the side of the house from the ice storm on Sunday) and Avery tried to eat it!
Avery checked the stockings that were empty, and made a pit stop in the doggy bed.
Then it was off to sleep to wait for Santa… and when we woke up on Christmas morning, the stockings were full and the skirt of the tree was bursting with presents from Santa!
Avery rushed over to his stocking and snatched the gift on top, shook it, and said ‘Goldfish!’… he was absolutely right. And the first 15 minutes of stocking opening was alll about the goldfish… he had to open and eat them.
And so went the rest of present opening… open one gift and Avery wanted to open and play with it. I’ll share more pictures from our Christmas vacation in the next post (Yes, it was a ‘vacation’ because it was FIVE days in Vermont!)…
We hope you had a wonderful holiday…. we did!
