Happy Birthday, America! We had a fun long weekend celebrating…
Our weekend started Thursday afternoon (we had Friday off). I went on a run, we picked lettuce in the garden for my dinner, took the dogs for a walk, and topped it off with a blue pop for desert!
MiMi and Grampy were gone all weekend, camping with family. We stayed behind to house and animal sit. Last year, the dogs went crazy with the fireworks while we were camping, so we stayed home with them this year. They sure kept us company too, sleeping in the rug and in Avery’s bed in our room all weekend…
They always sleep in bed with my parents, so without them home, they slept with us all weeekend.
Friday was a sunny day – Avery and I started our day giving the dogs a walk, and we mowed the lawn before it got too warm. Then we had lunch on the deck outside.
Early afternoon, we grabbed Steve and went strawberry picking! By Sunday night, this was all that was left from our full box:
Avery wanted Strawberry chips, and I made Steve a pie, plus we ate some, so they went fast!
To cool off Friday afternoon, we got the pool out and Avery let the dinosaurs go for a swim.
I got to lay out in my bathing suit to catch some sun while I watched the show.
Avery joined me on the blanket with a pop and we had a nice picnic snack.
Avery asked to do a painting outside, so I set him up with a holiday project.
We put tape over the canvas, and we painted together…
This is what it looked like when we were done… Avery was so proud
We let it dry, and Saturday, we took the tape off and this was the final product:
It’s hanging proudly in our room Friday night, we headed out in Steve’s boat. Avery took a nice cat nap on the way to the boat launch… doesn’t he look excited to see fireworks for the first time!?
We took a choppy ride out to see Burlington’s fireworks. Avery walked around the boat getting his sea legs.
It got darker and darker… Avery made friends with Steve’s brother and his girlfriend.
There were lots of boats on the water waiting for the fireworks.
Avery shared some snacks and before we knew it… fireworks went off!
The show was great from the boat, and Avery loved it. Because fireworks are so late, I hadn’t taken him out the past 3 years. He was wide awake for these.
Avery was tired and passed out right before we got to the dock and slept in for me til 9:15am on Saturday, woohoo! I don’t remember him every sleeping in that late – but I have never kept him up late like that before. It was worth it! Saturday was the 4th of July. We picked Steve up and headed to the town common for the town parade.
The town put on quite a nice show… for a town of 2500 people and no businesses.
Avery waved his stick flag he made last year, and watched and cheered.
The town common is a green with a road around it. The parade lasted less than 10 minutes, but they looped around for another round.
There were dressed up cars and a float, and lots of fire trucks and ambulances (from our and neighboring towns) – those were Avery’s favorite.
Avery was so excited when they started thowing candy – I remember this being my favorite part of parades too as a kid. Free candy!!
We played frisbee on the common before Avery got upset that I wouldn’t let him have more candy. So we headed home and he got over it. Saturday was pretty cloudy, and we had an afternoon shower, so we played inside for the afternoon. We built a train track in the living room, and it was very exciting building around Simon, sleeping in the middle of it all, never moving. we had to build a bridge over his tail!
Avery helped make the pie for Steve, and we played Uno attack (Avery’s favorite card game right now)
After Avery was tucked into bed and passed right out after 7pm, Steve and I shared a couple glasses of wine to celebrate!
Sunday… yes, one more day to recap of our crazy long and fun-filled holiday weekend – I took out the strawberry chips I had made overnight – Avery looooves these, almost as much as his apple chips.
We needed milk, and a few groceries, so we headed into town, and went to the park before we went to the store.
Then, we spent the afternoon on Steve’s boat. We road around, floated, had snacks and drinks, swam, floated some more. So much fun.
We took the boat out of the water just after 6 and Avery was out by 630, and slept until 7am on Monday. He was a tired guy!
Oh and since it’s July, here’s my update on our house savings… 75% of my goal is complete!!!
Annnnnddd we have a tenative buy date, now moved back to mid-October. It’s nice that we have a little more time to save, so I’ll for sure meet and exceed my goal savings if I keep up with how much I’ve been saving the past couple months. We’re super excited, and nervous, and working on getting all the paperwork in order. It’s feeling real when you’re signing your name on such official papers… eek!!!
