For cynics, Valentine’s Day is a holiday created by Hallmark to get you to buy things. For lovers, Valentine’s Day is an excuse to go overboard with flowers, chocolates, and jewelry. For parents, it’s a perfectly good occasion to buy adorable clothes and show them off!
Avery’s First Valentines Card:
Thanks, to Hallmark, I was able to make these cards online (www.hallmark.com) by adding the pictues & text. Then I added the addresses online, and poof, they mailed them for me. For a busy Mommy, that was wicked cool! And they were only 98 cents a piece! High quality thick paper and glossy finish… They have folding cards too… totally recommend them for any holiday/occasion!
And yesterday, Avery received his first Valentine’s cards from his Grammy & Grampy and his Great Gram & Gramp…
Keeping with my Mother’s tradition (she would have a card and a small box of chocolates at the breakfast table on V-day morning growing up) this morning, Avery got a red Valentine’s teddy bear from Mommy & Daddy. He brought it to daycare with him this morning…. when I put him in his carseat and strapped him in for the ride, he was holding the bear’s ear… so I think he likes it. As for our Valentine’s Day plans? We decided last week that Vinay and I wouldn’t get eachother anything… money is tight and it’s a weekday. So, we have a big dinner planned. Last night, Vinay put some steak tips in a marinade. Tonight, we’ll have them with some scalloped potatoes (we loooove them!) and open a bottle of wine. A nice quiet dinner and wine after Avery goes down to bed will be a perfect end to Valentine’s Day!…. but I have a sneaking suspision Vinay got me something. He HAD to go out shopping ALONE on Sunday… wouldn’t tell me why and said he only went to Home Depot…. he better not have gotten me anything! (I didn’t get him anything… as I promised… but Avery got him a card-that Daddy will find on his bag this morning!)
Parenting Tip: For Halloween and Christmas we bought (and got gifts) of holiday clothes for our little man. ‘Santa’s Favorite’ and ‘Baby’s First Christmas’ were some of the lettering on the clothes, and they were adorable, and Avery wore them a couple times around the holidays, but that was it, because wearing a Santa costume after Christmas is just silly. So, when we picked out Avery’s Valentine’s outfit, we made sure it was something he could keep wearing, even after the holiday was over. So, if you want to get your money’s worth, buy something with holiday cheer, but can be worn again and again!
